18th century Wig from Amadeus

The play Amadeus written about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s life was given to us as a project to design. From here we then created one of the characters wigs from our choice. I chose to make Antonio Salieri’s wig, completely made with hemp!

Buckrum base was formed over a headblock, I then padded the shape with wadding and then hemp was stitched and styled into a low ponytail.

Using hemp was part of the brief I was given and I really enjoyed smoothing it out with hair oils and carefully brushing it and styling it into curls to make real looking hair.
